Here are some recent news about the Minamata incident and also on mercury emissions

Targeting the use of mercury

"More than 140 countries negotiating in Geneva on Jan. 19 agreed on a treaty to limit emissions and releases of mercury, which can cause serious environmental pollution and health hazards. This treaty represents the first step in global efforts to prevent environmental and health damage from mercury." Read more about it here




Nations sign mercury pact

"More than 140 countries agreed Saturday on a groundbreaking treaty to rein in the use and emission of mercury, but environmental activists lamented it does not go far enough in preventing hazards to health." Read more about it here

 

Deal Struck on Minamata Treaty for Global Mercury Curbs

"Government representatives from around the world reached on Saturday a final agreement on a draft international treaty aimed at curbing global mercury emissions.

At a U.N. intergovernmental panel meeting in Geneva, participants from some 140 economies also decided to call the convention a Minamata treaty as proposed by the Japanese government." Read more about it here
